CHABLIS PREMIER CRU SET From The Upper Echelon

2019 Christoph & Fils – Montee de Tonnerre 1er Cru – Chablis

Sebastien Christophe and his Domaine are relatively new arrivals on the Chablis scene. This 2019 Chablis Montée de Tonnèrre is, as usual, very impressive indeed. The vineyards famous heavy limestone marl soils give gravitas and amplitude. Intense and impeccably balanced, it shows a crystalline purity, nuance and serious depth. Coming from Chablis finest 1er Cru vineyard (just next to Grand Cru Blanchots) the wine displays superb pedigree and harmony. As approachable as this is now, don’t forget to put some away for a few years

2018 Domaine William Fevre – Monte de Tonnerre 1er Cru- Chablis

This 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre offers up aromas of lemon oil, freshly baked bread, crisp green apple, white flowers, wet stones and oyster jus. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, it’s tensile and dynamic, with tangy acids, fine depth at the core and a long, sapid finish.

2018 Domaine Billaud-Simon – Montee de Tonnerre 1er Cru-Chablis

This 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is precise and nuanced, with all of the energy that is such a signature of this site. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and crushed rocks all run through a finely cut Chablis that offers terrific nuance as well as class. This is one of the highlights in the range.

2018 Domaine Billaud-Simon – Vaillons 1er Cru- Chablis

This 2018 Chablis Les Vaillons 1er Cru is presently showing only a very approximate impression of what this wine will ultimately be. Even so, there is good depth, as well as the strong balance of fruit intensity and vibrancy that runs through all of these wines. The Vaillons is a blend of six parcels in the greater Vaillons,

2018 Christoph & Fils – Mont de Milieu 1er Cru-Chablis

Sebastian’s  first 1er Cru from the deeper, richer limestone soils of Mont de Milieu, is a wine that shows signature precision and focus. It’s a tightly-wound, yet elegant example of Chablis with a distinct floral top note that sets it apart from other 1er Cru wines in the surrounding area

2018 Domaine Moreau-Naudet – Montmains 1er Cru- Chablis

The 2018 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru is lifted, weightless and airy, and yet there is plenty of power that emerges from thee glass. Citrus and floral notes come together in this elegant style of wine. A whole range of floral and citrus notes add character. The 2018 is understated today, but also appears to be holding back much of its potential.
